Lead-acid batteries are the most traditional type used in the material handling industry to power electric forklifts. This battery contains charged plates suspended in a mixture of sulfuric acid and water. They work by suspending the electrolytes between two charged plates within the acid mixture. Evaporation occurs during the operating and charging process. Compared to other solutions, they require more maintenance. Maintaining these batteries involves adding water to the battery and cleaning it frequently.

Read more See The RangeA lithium-ion battery for forklifts is a modern energy storage solution that offers several advantages over traditional lead-acid batteries. These batteries use lithium-ion chemistry, which allows for higher energy density, faster charging, and longer lifespan making them well suited to extended or multi-shift applications.

If you wish to switch to this solution, you'll need to make initial changes to your facility to include the right hydrogen infrastructure including hydrogen sourcing.
Fuel cells generate electricity when hydrogen meets oxygen in the electrolysis process, driving the electric motor and generating water as a waste product. Hydrogen made with renewable energy is completely carbon-free. When turning it into electricity, the only emission is distilled water.

Internal combustion engines don’t require any charging time and are easy and quick to refuel if the infrastructure for refuelling is available. If used inside, your operation requires a sufficient ventilation system in the operating environment to handle exhaust emissions.
