flower Power gains
more Hino horsepower
Positive experiences with the brand have prompted Australia’s best known
garden centre to add to its fleet of Hino trucks and maintain a relationship that
began more than 25 years ago.
Flower Power Garden Centres has taken
delivery of another 500 Series medium duty
model for its fleet. This includes 27 Hino trucks
ranging from Dutro, 300 and 500 Series models
to 700 Series prime movers.
Flower Power’s new 500 Series GH 1728 XXL
Auto Air has been fitted with an 8.5-metre FRP
body and 2T Anteo door sealer. It also has
a Hino Genuine bullbar, roof scoop, flares,
reversing camera and multimedia system, and
the company’s livery has been added to the
sides, doors and roof scoop.
Flower Power Logistics Manager Ryan Barry
said the decision to purchase another Hino
was largely due to the company’s positive
experiences and the brand’s reputation.
“Reliability has always been a strong point with
Hino. I always look around at other brands but
end up buying more Hino trucks,” Mr Barry
said.
“The 500 Series’ performance, comfort and

safety attributes are outstanding. Its ride and
handling surpasses other brands I’ve driven,
and the Allison automatic transmission helps it
drive just like a car.”
Flower Power has enjoyed a longstanding
relationship with Hino Australia and the Toyota
Group. “We’ve had good experiences with
Hino, Toyota and our dealer - Adtrans,” Mr
Barry said.
“They know the critical functions of running a
business, 364 days a year.”
Flower Power’s Hino trucks are used to
deliver goods from its wholesale nursery site
at Glenorie to its 11 retail outlets across the
greater Sydney area.
“Our Hino fleet does 10 or 12 hour shifts, seven
days a week, covering up to 450 kilometres per
day,” Mr Barry said.
The Hino 500 Series GH 1728 XXL Auto Air
is fitted with the J08E-VD inline six-cylinder
turbo diesel engine, rated at 206kW (280HP)
and 824Nm. Its power is delivered through the
Allison 3000 five-speed automatic transmission.
Its safety and comfort features include ABS-
brakes, dual SRS airbags, heated external rear
view mirrors and the ISRI driver’s seat.
Flower Power has grown from its original
Moorebank nursery, which it took over in
1968, to running 11 retail and three wholesale
locations in the greater Sydney area.
Flower Power has expanded its business
model from nursery and landscape sales
to include services such as garden design,
landscaping, pool fencing, decking and outdoor
shelter construction.
