TMHA expands North
Queensland branch network
Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA) has expanded its presence in
Queensland by opening a new branch in Cairns to better serve the material
handling needs of its customers in the far north of the state.
Sales in the region from Tully to Cairns were
previously handled by the TMHA branch in
Townsville, while service and repairs were
dealt with by local, non-Toyota affiliated
businesses.

Holland said it was clear that having a direct
presence in Cairns was the best outcome for
both TMHA and its customers.
“We’ve always done a fair amount of
business in Cairns and surrounds, but it’s
always preferable to have a direct presence
and be able to offer rental, sales, service and
repairs locally,” Mr Holland said.
“We currently have one Sales Manager and
one technician based in Cairns, and the plan
is for this to develop into a full-service TMHA
branch with more staff in the next few years.”
Mr Holland said the decision to set up a
permanent operation in Cairns was partly
driven by customer demand.
“While the previous arrangement was
adequate, it’s always preferable to have
your own people on the ground ready to
help customers with queries, repairs and
servicing. Our customers are very happy that
TMHA now has direct representation in their
district rather than four hours’ drive away in
Townsville.
“New sales were also a motivating factor
for us, and in the short time the branch has
been open we’ve already gained substantial
new business that wouldn’t have happened
if we didn’t have a direct presence here,” Mr
Holland said.
TMHA Area Sales Manager Shane Buttel
now handles sales enquiries and deliveries
for the region from the new Cairns branch,
having previously carried out the role
remotely from the TMHA Townsville branch.
“It’s definitely better all-round to be on the
ground here in Cairns,” Mr Buttel said.
“There’s been a noticeable boost in business
since I relocated here late in 2015 and it’s
much easier to do my job and represent
the Toyota brand here as part of the local
community.
“Our customers really appreciate TMHA
making the commitment to the area, and we
are able to offer a faster response time for
servicing and other requests.”
The TMHA Cairns branch is located at Unit
16/3 Toohey Street Portsmith.
TMHA’s customers in the region are
largely drawn from the food production and
distribution industries in the nearby Atherton
Tablelands, where high-volume crops such
as bananas, avocados, watermelon and
sugarcane are grown and harvested.
