Toyota introduces
automated forklift range
Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA) has
announced the introduction of a range of Automatic
Guided Vehicle (AGV) forklifts that will begin arriving
in August this year.
Toyota’s range of BT-branded AGV forklifts
contain its unique Autopilot technology that
provides reliable and accurate driverless
operation for transporting, stacking or
picking. The Autopilot system can function
independently and alongside manually
operated equipment.
For added flexibility the Autopilot-equipped
forklifts can also be operated manually if
required.
TMHA national sales and product manager
- automation Tony Raggio said one of the
advantages of Toyota’s AGV range is its
similarity with the existing range of BT pallet
trucks, order pickers and reach forklifts.
“Our AGV-enabled forklifts are essentially the
same as their existing manual counterparts,
with the only difference being the addition
of Toyota’s Autopilot technology,” Mr Raggio
said.
“This means operators can enjoy all the
reliability, safety and durability benefits
expected of Toyota forklifts with the added
benefits of automation - while servicing and
maintenance procedures remain unchanged.”
The key advantages of AGV forklifts include
increased safety with a reduced risk of
accidents, smooth workflow and greater
reliability, and improved efficiency.
“We envisage the AGV forklift
range making real productivity
improvements in busy
warehouse, storage or production
environments where repetitive
movements are common,” Mr
Raggio said.
“Another advantage is that, as
a Toyota-backed product we
offer full nationwide back-up and
support services - the same as
for any other forklift or other item
of material handling equipment.
“AGV customers in Europe are
reporting significant increases in
productivity as soon as they take
up the technology, and we expect
the ROI for the AGV forklifts to be
between 12 and 36 months,” Mr
Raggio said.

An award-winning Sydney equipment hire
company has taken delivery of 15 new rental-
ready Hino 300 Series trucks for its fleet of
hire vehicles.
Camden Hire’s new Hino 300 Series 616
automatic light-duty trucks are able to be
driven with a car licence.
Purchased from Adtrans Hino at Smeaton
Grange, the trucks are fitted with Westrucks
FRP Pan Bodies and Dhollandia tail lifts for
easy loading and access.
Michael Lindsay of Adtrans Hino assisted
Camden Hire with the procurement and
customisation of the fleet of 300 Series trucks.
“With our experience supplying trucks to
other rental fleets, we suggested a suite of
accessories for each truck to ensure it would
provide the best experience for Camden Hire
customers,” Mr Lindsay said.
“We’ve helped ‘rentalise’ these vehicles to
benefit customers and Camden Hire.”
Camden Hire founder Mike Scarce OAM had
previous experience with Hino trucks which
has now been rekindled with Adtrans Hino.
“We had Hino trucks in our fleet years ago
and were delighted when we realised we now
have a Hino dealership in such close proximity
to our headquarters in Smeaton Grange,” Mr
Scarce said.
“We’re currently in talks with Adtrans to add
light-duty tippers to our range of vehicles as
well.”
Accessories on Camden Hire’s new trucks
include heavy duty seat covers and screw-
in floor mats, tail light protectors, ‘quacker’
reverse alarm, handbrake alarm and a chain
on the fuel cap to prevent fuel loss.
Attention to detail for customers includes
height stickers on the windscreen to assist
renters unfamiliar with driving taller vehicles
and diesel stamps on the single fuel tank.
The trucks are also fitted with a reversing
camera which is standard on all Hino 300
Series models.
Camden Hire was established in 1984 and
services greater metropolitan Sydney and
beyond, specialising in building, excavation
and landscape equipment.
