Toyota Leads Australian Forklift Market

Toyota has topped the Australian forklift market for the ninth consecutive year, achieving an average market share of nearly 40 per cent.

Official Australian Industrial Truck Association (AITA) industry sales results show Toyota Material Handling Australia delivered over 5,100 forklifts in calendar year 2017, an increase of approximately 400 units on the previous year.

Toyota was the number one internal combustion manufacturer for the 31st year in a row, with a market share of more than 42 per cent.

It captured 37 per cent of the Australian battery electric forklift market.

Factory backed national distributor Toyota Material Handling Australia claimed number one sales position in all six Australian States.

TMHA will this year celebrate half a century of forklift sales in Australia with a series of special events, beginning in April.

TMHA chief operating officer Steve Takacs said the 2017 sales figures reflect Toyota’s ability to develop and manufacture leading-edge material handling equipment, and support those products nation-wide in Australia.

“Toyota is a leader within the forklift industry in research and development spending, and that shows in its product range, features, quality and industry leading safety technology,” he said.

“Our product support in Australia is also leading edge, encompassing everything from our long-standing commitment to the best apprentice training to our fleet management systems.

“Viewed together, our quality, durability and reliability, safety, parts and service, strict attention to cost of ownership and innovative business solutions add up to the Toyota Advantage.”
